Aeronautical and Astronautical Society of the Republic of China

The association was founded on June 22, 1958, initiated by then Director of the Air Force Technical Bureau, General 朱霖, who invited 31 domestic experts and scholars, including 林致平, 李熙謀, and 酈厚, to establish the organization. At the time, it was named the “Astronautical Society of the Republic of China.” To maintain close ties and academic exchange with international astronautical organizations, shortly after its establishment the association sent representatives to attend the 9th Annual Congress of the International Astronautical Federation (IAF), held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, in August 1958, and applied for membership. The application was approved, and the association was admitted as a member representing the Republic of China in the International Astronautical Federation. It now has a history of more than 60 years. As Taiwan’s domestic aviation industry began to develop and universities and colleges successively established departments of aeronautical engineering, the association adapted to the needs of the times. At the 1970 annual meeting, it was resolved to rename the organization the “Aeronautical and Astronautical Society of the Republic of China.” The change was officially approved and registered under Ministry of the Interior Notification No. 41075, and this name remained in use until June 2007. To ensure consistency between the Chinese and English names, the 48th Annual Meeting and General Assembly resolved to amend the Chinese name of the association to “The Aeronautical and Astronautical Society of the Republic of China,” and in June 2007, the Ministry of the Interior approved the renaming and issued a new registration certificate (Tai-Nei-She-Zi No. 0960086857).
